October 13, 2025 by AddisonIT IT Solutions
First Checks
- Toggle Airplane mode off, Wi-Fi on.
- Try another site/app (to rule out one service).
- If on VPN , disconnect and test raw internet first.
Windows Quick Fixes
1. Forget & rejoin the network (Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi).
2. Network reset : Settings → Network reset (requires reboot).
3. Refresh IP/DNS (run Command Prompt as admin ):
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4. Update Wi-Fi adapter driver via Device Manager .
macOS Quick Fixes
- Turn Wi-Fi off/on; forget and rejoin.
- In Network settings, move your corporate SSID higher in the Preferred Networks list.
- Renew DHCP lease.
VPN Tips
- Open VPN client after you have stable Wi-Fi.
- If split-tunneling/policy routes are enforced, some sites only work on VPN—check company policy.
When to Call IT
- Constant drops for all users (likely AP or controller issue).
- You can connect but no DNS resolution or captive portal anomalies.
Persistent drops? AddisonIT can survey and optimize Wi-Fi (coverage, channel plans, guest/corporate VLANs) and streamline VPN access
